Another dull day- or perhaps not

Did anyone out there watch the doubles tennis in the Davis Cup Finals yesterday? It was a really good advert for tennis, well done to Andy and Jamie Murray. More this afternoon - fingers crossed for one more win which will mean GB win the Davis cup for the first time since the 1930's.

Yesterday started off sunny and cold but by not long after midday it was raining, blowing a hooley and freezing. Today is not quite so cold but exceedingly grey and drizzly. We've done 20 minutes wood cutting and soon Col is taking our youngest and her bloke to look at a car in Woodbridge. I shall make a batch of pizza topping this morning and watch the tennis this afternoon, Strictly results show this evening and then delve into my lovely heap of library books. So another riveting  day of excitement, part of our quiet life in Suffolk. At least I don't force him to go Christmas shopping!

The 29th tip for saving £1 is :- Chutney is easy to make, cheaper than buying, you know what goes into it and it makes good presents. So there's lots of reasons for making rather than buying. There are several recipes on my separate recipe page and dozens of chutney books out there.

Back Tomorrow

  1. I've been banished to the kitchen by my son....every time I walked in the lounge yesterday, Andy and Jamie lost a point!!

    1. Andy had a great win today - did you stay in the kitchen throughout?!

  2. Yes it was a good match as were the two on Friday. Kyle did so well before running out of steam. Thought Jamie a little under par but Andy seemed to move up a gear to help. Hope he wins today!

    1. I was worn out watching todays match - what a good win. Did you see the size of that trophy - HUGE

  3. I did not see it as I was either cooking or sewing but was listening while Fran watched. The weather is here as well, full on hooley with knobs on. I did manage to get Ben out in the almost dry this morning, it could well be a rowing boat job later though.

  4. My life is as quiet as yours at the moment, not a lot to write about. Very windy here. Short blog post coming up.

    1. You probably need a rest after all the TV excitement!

  5. I do admire your versatility and your energy. Who do you think will go out of Strictly tonight? I rather think it might be Peter.

  6. So agree with your last tip about not eating meat . Not just for economy, but also if you cannot afford to buy meat that you know had a good life, then eat less. Animal welfare should be a concern along with, if not more so than cheapness. We won't die if we do not eat meat every day.
Chutney is easy to make (and cheap) all be it smelly (the vinegar).
Enjoy your quiet life, moving is hell!

    1. We used to raise all our own meat - pork, lamb, chickens and goat. When we gave up animal keeping we cut right back on meat eating, I wouldn't go completely veggie as I love roast chicken and a ham sandwich now and again.

We moved 6 times before coming here - but we were younger then!

    1. I'm just glad to be happy at home on such a dreary Sunday. I bet the shops were busy.

  8. Busy packing my sewing items on this dreary, wet day. We hope that our house will sell in the spring. Really not looking forward to cleaning out the basement. Have a good day!

  9. If you get the chance, do visit SFH, it is such a nice place to shop. Can't lie, it can be expensive, but some of the goodies there .. oh yum! We always get our Christmas tree there, they seem to have such nice shaped ones, and locally grown too :O) I bought some Suffolk Christmas Chutney today, it was pricey, but I couldn't resist.

Ah, strictly. I read the tweets of Strictly Spoiler, so I've already seen who gets the boot. The results show is a bit tedious so if I can find out ahead of it I will! Not telling though, not spoiling it for you :O)

Stay safe. The weather is completely scary and bonkers right now. Went out to put some rubbish out, literally 20,30 seconds. Not only did I have to fight the wind but I was drenched. Soaked through. Not often it's that scarily windy and rainy.
oh yes, and I am not feeling right at all. What kind of idiot starts decorating so close to Christmas? I am a moron! x

  10. It's rained most of the day here and is very windy. The fences are rattling but have stayed put so far. Your day sounds perfect to me. Pottering around house with nowhere to go and nothing to do is right up my street. xx

  11. Tennis got recorded by mistake on our telly box. Husband expecting grand prix was not amused. He's currently watching abu dabi via iPlayer. I saw some truly terrible weather through the windows this weekend, but totally stuck indoors by my mum hiring a carpet cleaner. My house (6 rooms plus stairs); mother in law's lounge, hall and bed room; mum's house (5 rooms plus stairs) all equals one shattered Jess. Not exactly stir up Sunday, more squirt n suck weekend! Looking forward to work for a bit of a rest!!

Decided today that me next term's pottery project will be a pizza oven for the garden. Yummmm !

    1. The tennis was 100 times more interesting than the Grand prix! and I'm not surprised you are worn out after all that carpet cleaning - a good idea to make the most of it

  12. I need to go back and read your other tips, I always need to improve. I'd love a total no spend this month, but need to stock up on some things to carry us through the winter. Hoping to start saving to buy a used, new to u,s truck soon. That and roof repair are my big goals for this coming year.

    1. A total no spend month couldn't happen here because of the direct debits and needing fuel for the car. Good luck with your savings

  13. I keep forgetting that fact - knowing what goes into recipes is also a valid factor, not just price.

  14. I love making chutney. I haven't made any this year but normally look round for a cheap box of toms to make a good batch. Can't wait until we can grow our own to make it with..

    1. I use all sorts of different things for chutney and relishes. I think I made enough to see us through if we don't grow things next year
