Bun cases are smaller than they used to be - Discuss

I was rustling up a batch of sultana buns this morning and decided that since the invention of cup-cakes and the move to muffins, good old fashioned bun cases are smaller than they once were.

Another box packed, another cupboard sorted and 5 small bits of unwanted furniture over to Campsey Ashe ready for Mondays auction.

I don't know if it's the same where you've been but we've had a beautiful day here today. There was a bit of  spring in the air and a little warmth in the sun, providing you were indoors!
Outside the red catkins on the red hazel are all showing and the primroses under the quince trees are spreading.

Thanks for comments yesterday
Back in a day or two

  2. I have several bun cases, and all of them elderly. My muffin cases are a good size, and the others shallower and suited to Fairy Cakes and little Madelaines. Can't remember when I looked at a bun case new, so will have to check them out in Charlies!

  3. It has been beautiful here, blue skies and we had the small office windows open

  4. I think they just look so tiny since muffin cases became all the rage. We used to be satisfied with small fairy cakes but these days it seems everything has to be bigger and better .... but in my opinion bigger is not always better. There discussed ;-)

Your place is going to look so lovely for when the new folk move in with nature springing into life just in time.

  5. Everything is smaller but not surprisingly costs cost! Everything but wonderful weather and we have certainly had a couple of beautiful days here, too.

Wish I were going to the auction!

  6. Been nice where I live, in fact the shops we needed to go in today we didn't even put our coats on once we parked the car!

Sue above is quite right. Since muffin cases have been on the scene everything is so much bigger. Sometimes though I make tiny teeny fairy cakes if we're seeing our grandchildren in the sweetie cases, smaller than fairy cake cases. Fairy size in comparison to the giant muffin cases, but nice for little hands and tummies.

  7. I hope Col's treatments are going well. Mine are bringing my numbers down remarkably. Of course, I'm almost 11 years out from diagnosis and this is relapse therapy.. but my question is where is your new to you abode? you're selling your house it sounds like. So will it be a rental? I'm just curious as we are just a few years from my husband retirement. We already live in a very small house, but it has a large mortgage ,so we're trying to figure out what to do.
Best on your move and to Col.

    1. Our new home we are buying is a small bungalow in Ipswich a lot nearer the hospital! We had already decided to sell the smallholding before Col was diagnosed so that we could have a year travelling with our caravan. Now we hope to do that when he is well again. Then the plan is to let the bungalow out and find something a bit bigger to buy.

  8. I'm sure everything is going to come together as planned. It will be lovely to travel around the UK in your caravan. I cant wait to do the same.

  9. Its been a lovely day here in Yorkshire, it started with a hard frost then the sun shone, just right for a 7 mile walk then back home and an afternoon nap. :-)

  10. Even the muffin cases are smaller now but the loaf tin liners are still the same. Asda used to sell decent sizes cases but my nearest one is still more than twice as far as Pontardawe so I do not go. I am seriously thinking of taking a couple of weeks to explore North Wales when the weather breaks, it will be in short doses though, I don't want to abandon the garden.

  11. We only make muffins in this house, the old size cakes were barely a mouthful. Growing lads and all that!

  15. I could never make a 4oz or was it maybe 2oz ...mixture spread to a dozen cakes, so maybe now with teenie weenie cases I'd have more luck...though mostly I cook as a tray bake...hubby has a ferocious appetite, and I'm not that fond of spending on cake cases! x

    1. Don't know about bun cases as I never make buns.
As to the weather Sue, it has been lovely here too - sunshine all day but the temperature never got above five degrees. Five miles up the road into the Dale they had a couple of inches of snow.
