Mushrooms and Apples

Colin decided he felt well enough to walk around a boot sale so we popped along to a regular Sunday one a few miles out of town - It will be our nearest once we move.
Everybody wanted silly prices for the few things I asked about so all I left with was a box of mushrooms for £1. We came back a different way and passed through a village with lots of orchards and bought  a big bag of Cox apples for 50p. Then home for a coffee.
 Mushroom soup anyone?

Thank you for all the comments last time and for the many new followers

If it was a follower competition then I think Sue at Our New Life in the Country won with John at Going Gently second and I rolled in a miserable 3rd. But as it wasn't a competition I'm not bitter!!

  1. What an amazing haul of mushooms for £1. Apple seem to be quite expensive at present. Good to hear that Col was feeling well enough to go out. That is a very good thing. Have a great Sunday

  2. No don't be bitter ... it's not your fault you lost ;-)

I hate it when I leave a car boot sale after asking and being told that the things I fancy are some ridiculous price. Some folks think their tat is treasure, and the crazy thing is they usually bring it back week after week after week.

Brilliant buy with the mushrooms and the apples though so not a wasted journey, and it's lovely to hear that Col felt well enough to join you ... that's just made my day, well that and finishing the creosoting.... Yay!!

  3. Yum - homemade cream of mushroom, and cream of asparagus soup - I can eat them anytime. As Sol said - the lot you got were a bargain.

  4. So great to read Col felt well enough for a trip out. That must be reassuring and a pleasant change for him. Car boot sales around here can be quite expensive too, as can the charity shops for that matter, which is disappointing. The mushrooms are a good deal though. I'm craving some mushroom soup now. X

  5. Great deal on mushrooms, I always buy mushrooms when I see them reduced, even if I make soup from them. We are working at Hertford now, looking forward to exploring local charity shops, I think they are slightly cheaper than Canterbury. So glad Col is feeling a better, hoping for continued improvement. Just to let you know, daughter (finally) gave birth to beautiful healthy - 9lb 6oz boy early yesterday morning.

  8. It's good to hear he's up and about x I do like mushroom soup but I prefer mushroom stroganoff! Far more double cream in it!!!

  9. Mushrooms I could cope with, but just DON'T mention the Apple word here! Oh my lord, I have NEVER EVER had such a bumper crop (and on every tree). I'm drowning in the blasted things and of course, can't give them away as everyone else has had a good year. I should have a couple of pigs to fatten up on them.

Good to hear that Col felt up to going to the Car Boot Sale and sorry that prices were so high - I guess it's towards the end of the season and not many outside sales left so they're trying to cash in whilst they can. Dealers round here ask top dollar too (but then, as a non-car-boot dealer, who am I to talk?! We're always hopeful of a good sale and have to pay up to £175 for our antiques fair pitches so need to get the money back somehow!)

  10. Mushroom soup sounds good. I put some in with the chicken already cooked in crockpot today with veggie broth and frozen vegetables. It was so good and the house smelled amazing. Makes me hungry just thinking about it. I made more applesauce yesterday and still have another batch to do soon. I canned it and have one jar opened already. YUMMY! Enjoy your days this fall and the fruits and veggies! Blessings!

  11. Mushroom soup is my favourite although I confess mine always comes from a tin.

We never ask silly prices if we do a car boot and at the end I'm happy to pretty much give stuff away rather than pack it up and take it back home for the sake of a few pence. xx

  13. How lovely to have got out together at the weekend. We popped to our local boot on Sunday and I spied a polka dot sugar bowl I liked the look of. £2.50 she wanted, I suspect she took it home again! That makes me sound very mean!
